Police Department Long Service Merit Medal.
Inscribed 'Osaka Police Department City Branch Commander, Showa 49 [1974].'
Police Department Excellence Medal.

Kodama Police Department 3rd Class Merit Badge.
Saitama Police Department 2nd Class Merit Badge.
'Army Large Military Maneuvers Police Patrol,
Gunma Prefecture, Showa 9 [1934] November.'
Fairly rare Police Department Merit Award. This is the
highest award for service, and was given to people
who served for 30 years in the department. However,
the 30 years must have been exemplary service; that
is, the officer could not have had any blemishes on his
record. So these medals are not seen very frequently.

This case is not lacquered wood. Probably a padded
cardboard of some sort. Lined interior. A date is
hand-written on the inside lid: 'Heisei 7 [1995] March
27.'

Although not hallmarked, these were usually made at
the Japan Mint. (See photo from the
80-Year History of
the Japan Mint
. They started to be made in Showa 9
[1934].)

Fairly rare Japan Mint medal celebrating the 1964
Olympic Games. This medal was issued by the national
police department and probably awarded to policemen
who performed some sort of duty at the games. Inscribed
'18th Olympic Games, Tokyo Tournament
Commemorative, Kyoto Large Exhibition, Showa 39
[1964] October, National Police Department.'
The medal is hallmarked 'Japan Mint manufacture.'
