Naval Engineer Academy, Engineering Student Graduation Commemorative, 4th Graduating Class.
(From the collection of Brenton W.)
'[Imperial Year] 2600 , Mine Skills, Torpedo Cadet, Graduation Commemorative, 67th Graduating Class.'
[Imperial Year] 2603 , Yokosuka Naval Artillery Academy, 1st Artillery Technician,
An interesting watch fob from pre-war Japan.
OBVERSE: Skull and laurel branches design with unknown kanji at the top.
REVERSE: 'Tokyo, Toyoshima Normal School, Alumni Association, [Imperial Year] 2589 .'
SIZE: 3.5 cm diameter.
A watch fob from pre-war Japan.
OBVERSE: Raised Army star, cherry blossoms, Imperial mum background.
Inscribed 'Dispatch Soldier Commemorative.'
SIZE: 4 cm long.
The design of this fob appears to have been modeled on the rare Navy pilot watch
fobs. However, this was probably sold to the general public as a souvenir of the
Pearl Harbor attacks OR more likely as a souvenir of the Great East Asia War,
which began on that date.
It is not an official Army or Navy issue (as far as I can tell). The kanji on the obverse
read 'Certain Victory.'
On the reverse is inscribed 'Great East Asia War Commemorative, Showa 16
December 8.' Of course, since Japan is a day ahead of America, this date
refers to the Pearl Harbor attack. Japanese date the beginning of the Great East
Asia War to this date, so even though the Pearl Harbor date is written specifically
on this badge, it was used only to indicate the beginning of the Pacific War. So this
fob could have been bought anytime after that date.
Very rare original watch fob.
The design has a golden kite above the insignia for the
Manchuria Rail Defense Unit. Below that are communication
lines and headphones.
Inscribed: 'Mukden, Showa 14 , Kwantung Army Wireless
Communication, Completion Commemorative.'
The center phrase is actually 'KANMUHOU.' This doesn't make
sense so it is probably an abbreviation.
Watch fob. Inscribed 'Tochigi Village, Patriotic march, Navy
Commemorative, Showa 9 .'
Rare watch fob from the China Incident. The design elements here are puzzling for me, and they are worthy of
further research. If anyone can identify the symbols here, I would appreciate it.
The obverse has what is probably a medic flag flying over a wall, possibly the Great Wall of China. War front
makeshift fence is in front of the wall. Below is a symbol in silver. It may be a stretcher...
The reverse has four figures, two of which may be medic banners. The other two are unknown to me. The inscription
reads 'Central China Expeditionary Army Commemorative, From Showa 13 to Showa 15 .'
Diameter: 3.6 cm.
Army watch fob.
Inscribed 'Showa 11 May 10, Signal Unit 3rd
Company, Foundation Commemorative.'
Inscribed 'Yokosuka Navy Artillery Academy, 90th Class Artillery Cadet, Graduation
Commemorative, 2602 .'
Inscribed 'Yokosuka Navy Artillery Academy, 92nd Class Artillery Cadet, Graduation
Commemorative, 2603 .'
Inscribed 'Navy Pilot 1st Class, 9th Class, Auxiliary Cadet, Graduation Commemorative, 2603 .'
Inscribed 'Navy Artillery Academy, 95th Class Artillery
Cadet, Graduation Commemorative, 2604 .'
'Army Pilot Academy 32nd graduating class.
